About Me
My name is Roberta and I live in Northern Kentucky--just 12 miles south of the Ohio River. I have grown children and 5 beautiful granddaughters. I have been sewing since I was 8 years old--sitting at my grandma's and mother's knees.
My major in college was Home Economics and I taught it to Jr High students for awhile. I went back to school at night and received extra studies and went on to teach 1st grade both in the states and 2 years in the American Schools in Bamberg, Germany. I met my wonderful husband on the base where I was teaching.
My doll making has evolved over the past 22 years but only in the past 8 years have my Annies become my true love and joy--all because of some patterns that I purchased from Raggedy Old Annies--a wonderful designer and my inspiration. I use mostly 1930's reproduction fabrics--some truly old fabrics when I can find them--vintage rickrack, all cotton laces and true vintage velvet ribbon. Vintage buttons embellish their clothing as well. These are the makings of my Annies, Andy's and Santa's.
All my patterns have been adapted from some very talented designers--I use them to expand upon with my own creative talents. All the dolls are completly handmade.
After I retired from Delta in 2003, I started doing shows and they have really taken off-I now do 4 shows a year with a possible 5th this fall. I do shows in West Chester, Oh--and Union, KY. I have retiredmy Findlay , Ohio shows and few other onesbut may try to add one very large show inthe next year. Trying to keep all my shows within a few hours from home.
I have to thank my hubbie, Dick, for his patience and support--especially at shows--my extended family of children, daughter-in-law, sisters and friends and especially my granddaughters for their true love of my Annies and their endless ideas for new Annies.
My Annies are my sanity--I love their happy faces--I hope you will too.
